An autism spectrum disorder (ASD) assessment is undertaken when there are concerns regarding a child’s communication, behaviour and social skills. The process typically involves a developmental history interview with the parents/carers, administration of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – 2nd ed. (ADOS-2), and questionnaires for parent and teacher completion.
An attention assessment is applied when there are concerns regarding a child’s concentration, attention and behaviour. The process typically involves an initial parent interview, administration of appropriate tests and specific ADHD diagnostic questionnaires for parents and teacher completion, and a school observation.
A full psycho-educational assessment may be employed when there are concerns about a child’s learning ability or educational performance. The process typically involves an initial parent interview, administration of measures that evaluate IQ (academic potential) and academic skills (reading, spelling, mathematics), and questionnaires for parent and teacher completion. However, we also undertake assessments for giftedness, and provide recommendations for parents and educators on how such children's potential can be maximised.
We employ a positive behaviour support model to ensure effective and practical interventions for challenging behaviours displayed by children and adults with a disability. Before a BSP's can be developed a adaptive assesment is required to ascertain an individuals adpative functioning, and identify target behaviours. Once this process has taken place a BSP will provide general strategies for the parents/carers, educators, and support workers supporting the individual.
